I have the same problem also. Google does not speech in Redmi Note 4X.
I have installed: Google Search, Google Now and Google TTS, but still no works. Please help resolve this issue. This is very important feature for me.

graw2: Could you explain how you fix it?

I just installed Google app from Play Store and configured properly, no other trick needed. Go through below steps:

1. Install Google App from Play store
2. Enable all permission for Google app
3. Enable Google app in autostart apps
4. Set Google as default assist app:
Settings > Installed apps > Defaults > Assist & Voice input > Assist app > Choose assist app: Google (default) <-- Tap on Google even if you see it is already default!
5. Google app settings > Voice > Languages:
Set English US as primary language <-- It is not needed if system language already set to English US
6. Google app settings > Voice > Ok Google detection > Enable Say "OK Google" any time > say 3x "Ok Google" > Enable Trusted voice
7. Settings > Additional settings > Languages & input > Virtual keyboard > Manage keyboards > Enable Google Voice typing
8. Settings > Sound & Vibration > Increase Media volume to proper level

If you done with above then say "OK Google" to get Google assistant on the screen and ask her "What's your name" She will answer to you verbally.

Try it and then tell me the result.

I've done. "Ok Google" works properly, but still not talking back. The assistant answers only when I say: "Call sb", then response "I cannot do that, when phone is locked".

Only for specific questions have verbal (speaking) answers from google assistant. It is normal app related behavior. It is changed when updated to nougat based MIUI.

For example when I ask Google assistant "What can you do for me?" then I get verbal (speaking) answer from her. Try to ask the same question and tell me how did you get the answer written or verbally.

Yes, but only minimal playstore. Others do install via playstore, not an issue.
