Hello Mi 5c pals!
As we are a smaller part of the international community, we have to stay together as much as possibile. Therefore, I thought that having our own thread where we recap all the ROMs, issues and instructions for bug reporting to official miui forums, could be very useful!

NOTICE: as I've moved to another device, post updates may be delayed, though I'm trying to keep it as up to date as I can.

Common known issues

Touch is not responding in TWRP after MIUI 9 update
That is a known issue of the current xiaomi.eu TWRP build. The workaround to get it get it back is firmly pressing both volume down and power at the same time for just one second: that will quickly reload some modules and touch will be working again.
Beware that such quick reboot appears to be disabling MTP (Media Transfer Protocol), therefore the internal storage will not be visibile again from your PC: tap on mount, then enable MTP in the lower right corner to have the internal storage recognized again.
Thanks to @zeork on official en.miui forum, there's a new TWRP image by 7to.cn team which does not suffer from this issue and has some nice extra features!

Watching videos on some third party apps causes a weird zoom effect

Yep that's the original version, xiaomi.eu has also changed the UI back to stock TWRP one. I know it's just a recovery and not the OS, but as touch is perfectly working when a MIUI 8 build is installed and stops behaving correctly once a MIUI 9 is, that probably means a change to kernel modules or drivers handling during boot process has happened. Thankfully that only results in a small annoyance with an easy workaround, but anyway should be fixed.

In general, if you have a problem with Mi5c, bugs / issues, it is best to report them on the Chinese version of forum miui.com because it is a typical phone for the Chinese market and there better report it and possibly add on en.miui.com. Many bugs have already been reported, but as you know, to better and faster responde is to click the "confirm" button in Pc browser version forum. And if we report a bug, we should add a description, screenshots from bug, bugreport.zip, AP log, Modem log, screen from dumbs. How to make such logs is described in the subforum mi5c on en.miui.com in the subsections of guides in the subsection "other" is also a topic with all bugs on Mi5c.

Hi, the phone is great generally but it does not always recognise the sim card. Typically it takes a couple of reboots for it to register the card and it displays a message: handset is not compatible. Is this something people have seen? Is there a solution?

The other thing is battery. It either drains really quickly towards the end (under about 20%), or it does not report its state very well. The phone has shut down a couple of times before I expected.

I am on the latest EU developer rom.

Haven't encountered such SIM card error... Have you tried it in another phone? Have you enabled 5 bands mode in Song Assistant hidden app?
Battery issue could be related to developer ROM (have you enabled battery saver under 20%?), anyway the Surge S1 SoC has been around since less than one year and being the first in-house processor built by Xiaomi I think they still need to work alot on performance improvements, even energy efficiency ones. If I were you, maybe giving a shot to the stable might improve things

Thanks - I may consider the stable, but had hoped the dev would have resolved some of the video playback and other issues earlier. Is it straightforward to install the stable once you are on dev?

The SIM was working fine in the Mi4i. And yes, I have also enabled the 5 bands, without it I was on roaming all the time. Can it be that SIM cards are programmed or structured differently by different providers? But that does not explain why it works one time and not the other...

According to official en.miui forum the notification issue has been fixed in closed beta 7.11.14, let's see tomorrow if 7.11.16 is fine

Thanks for that. I think I may have had a fake rom initially, but now I am running the latest EU developer rom.

I'll try the other slot, that's a good idea, although I have read somewhere that slot does not support 4G.

Both slot support 4G/3G/2G but if You have 2 sim card insert to phone, one of this slit have 4G and second only 2G, but You can choose than what slot support 4G, 1 slot or 2 slot.

Genius. I still get the message 'Incompatible Handset' on startup, but let's see if it is more consistent in accepting the card over time. Thanks.

Have you tried with another SIM card? A firend one for example... Just thought it might have to do with some changes in the SIM card reader circuitry introduced in the Mi 5c (as it is a very chinese market oriented phone).

How this bug can be fix, when You don't report this bug od miui.com and not confirm problem (click button confirm in forum on thread with bug report) and no add screenshot, AP Log, Modem log and bugreport.zip from You?

I report many bugs on miui.com and en.miui.com and add many modem logs, ap logs, bugreport.zip, screenshot from issue and screenshot from dumb modem.
Also i create a guide how do modemlog, ap log, how on dumb modem etc.

No one confirmed many bug from me on miui.com and no one confirm on en.miui.com. I report this bug on qq dev modem china too, and add logs, but only I do that.....

This is China model for China Mobile(TD-LTE) not for Unicom(4G FDD-LTE), until You dont report bugs on China Miui Forum Miui until bug will be there.

I paste many time links for my bug reports on PM to many user this forum(Xiaomi.eu forum) and no one responde to me and no answer and confirm on Miui forum.

I received a PM response from 1-2 people but They have no problems. Also I have this somewhere, I will not be reporting errors in the Official Forums, because if You do not care and you have no problems, then I will not try. How can you explain that reporting here on xiaomi.eu does not give anything because it is miui china errors so if the Chinese do not fix it here nobody for so little popular model will not try. And to have the Chinese take for correcting the bug must be confirmed by a large number of people, but how does it occur as a pour problem or sell the answer, I do not have that problem.

Even You dont responde to my PM and no confirmed bug on miui.com and en.miui.com, You don't add bugreport.zip, modemlog and ap log after bug,issue..

And another responde. No problem? Than how can be solved?

This bug fixed officially because was global bug on many model phones in Miui China and Miui Global.

Bugs like: zooming on video apps, ussd code dont work, lose internet 4G, lose signal after voice call(modem crash), Fc check version info in english langnguage, off phone even have 7-10% battery yet, black screens etc THIS ALL BUGS ARE ONLY ON MI5C. Only user Mi5c can report this bugs and must wait for fix, when You dont report bugs and not confirmed on MIUI.COM They no fix this issue.

Still under testing, this issue is a sneaky one but I'm sure the devs are gonna figure out a fix pretty soon! Regarding the TWRP issue, sadly yes, though it's just an annoyance than a real bug: if touch does not respond (sometimes happens, sometimes not), just firmly press once volume down and power, TWRP will reboot and be back to a fully working state as usual

I'm on stable 8.5.4. and everything works great, much better than the weekly miu 9, there are no bugs, my battery lasts about twice as long as I am at the dev rom, I'm very happy with that rom.

Hi all,

Have just installed the new MiUi 9 ROM and so far it has been good. Both sims working fine. Notification sound is working. No qualms at all. Thanks @archmirak and the rest of the xiaomi.eu team.

Show worked ussd code, show option check version in english lnguage after code 6484, show video in example yt app in 720/1080p. Its not true that work fine....

It does not work well for anyone, but that's why everything else works, I thought about dev rom.
