I checked that the mac.txt existed and does have my MAC address correctly stored in it.
However, I am staying at a guesthouse at the moment and the wifi login needs to be entered through a 10.0.0.254 URL using a personal username and password.
The main point being is that under the older o/s I only needed to re-enter whenever I powered-off the device or took it out of wifi range.
With this new o/s, it requires re-entering the login details everytime I use the device (after sleep).....something changed?!?

Ok. This might be a bug. But talking about setup you wrote about, I'm travelling a lot and in the hotel I'm staying almost same setup with internet, just once a day I need to confirm connection to internet. And there I'm getting such strange things, plus extremely high power consumption from wifi. For example when I'm leaving tab in the morning with full battery, in the evening it'll be at most 50%, might be also worth and empty battery at end of day. Coming home, with normal wifi setup, no problems at all and device sleeping like a child. Nothing to do with that.

I was going to mention this in my earlier post but I thought one thing at a time.
I'm finding exactly the same with power consumption, I used to see the battery around 85% at the end of the day but now it's in the 40% region in the evening.

I can't explain this. Interesting that turning in flight mode for example not helping if you were already connected to such WiFi.

7.9.14 was actually not an OTA, but full release. That's why you loose everything. My version will be tomorrow evening. If you could, just stay with existent 7.9.14 till tomorrow and then flash over.

Thanks for the updated ROM.
But I'm getting the RH-01 error in the Play Store and cannot remove my Google account from Settings. I receive an error message stating that "Administrators can only remove accounts." or something similar!

I have the only user account on the device?!?

Any suggestions?

That's strange..... Try simply delete all data/cache from all google services connected to play market.

I tried many things, too many to mention including deleting data from Google services which I was hesitant to do.
But still the error persisted. I left the device on and slept....this morning it is connecting to Google without errors.
Sorry I can't explain how to fix this for other users who may experience this problem as I did many deletions, modified syncing, cleared caches etc.
But I'm a happy camper.

The wifi is now stable and doesn't require logging in every time after device sleep.

But battery usage is still high.

I recommend to disable WiFi during sleep. I did this on my. It's nothing to do with that.
 
Update 7.9.21 has downloaded...rebooting now to apply. I will give an update on the outcome.

and......I've lost root :(

Xiaomi.eu has closed the support for the pads! Can not you create a multitask? Just because of the language! Super your job!

What exactly you mean under "multitask"?
If it's about multi language, then only one option is MoreLocation that already included in my ROM. It allows you to get all but settings to quite a lot of languages.
