Hello all,

as an absolute Newcomer to the Forum and XiaoMi-Rom-Updating-process I want to ask for help with the following task:
My phone is an XiaoMi Redmi 2 Pro (2Gb RAM, 16 Gb Memory). The type sign under the battery says "2014813 TD-LTE". Its got Android-Version 4.4.4 KTU84P and an MIUI7 5.9.24 from decuro.de

I would like to update to at least Android 5 to be able to install the app "Android Auto" for in-car-connectivity of the phone. If there are higher-than-android-5-updates available I would also like to install them of course and I still want to use a German user interface after the update.

What kind of MIUI ROM Release do I have to choose and what kind of TWRP? By the way what does the TWRP-tool do??
On the ROM 7.1.12 release page I have found a table with columns for board name and device. For board name HM2014813 there is only an update for Android 4.4 available (ROM name HM2XTD) but in the device column I can find a HM2014813 (in brackets behind "Redmi 2 TD-SCDMA 2GB RAM") which supports Android 5.1 (ROM name HM2XTD Pro, board name WT86047). Can I use the later ROM for an update of my phone coming from the now installed decuro-ROM?

Many thanks in advance for showing me how to update my phone!
Regards

Well, find a TWRP zip/img version for Android 5.1 for your Redmi 2 (for example ZCX TWRP from XDA). Install it from a PC in fastboot mode (there are some good guides on the net about it) and boot the phone in recovery right away. Then use HM2XTD PRO rom zip file (positioned on your SD card), but first make the necessary wipes of data, internal storage, cache and dalvik (backup your important files and passwords first). After wiping, install the rom, then make wipes of cache and dalvik, restart in recovery for safety reasons - to see if your newly flashed TWRP recovery which comes with the new rom works well... And then restart in system...
'Google' these actions if you have additional questions! There are some good videos common for all Xiaomi phones on youtube, too. Good luck!

I have the same phone as you for about a year now. As far as I remember, I downloaded the last stable version of HM2XTD PRO.zip and put it in "downloaded rom" folder in my phone. After that, I just went to settings - about phone - update - ... - and chose "HM2XTD PRO.zip" to install. After installation process has been done, I had to reset the phone to "factory reset" and that was it.

It's indeed really this simple ..

Like you, I switched to a Redmi 2 Prime in December, and was confronted by so much varied information on how to update:
* with many people conflating needing to root the device with my needs to just update to the latest Miui.eu
* some others assume (wrongly) that all miui handsets have locked bootcode and thus need the process for getting around that. This is wrong, and it is some of the more recent developer images that have locked bootcode.

So, just do a system update like isakac has described above .. or the same thing from a recovery boot.

keep it as simple as possible, and separate out the needs for rooting from just OS update .. Getting in TWRP is a good idea though .. It is a really useful recovery too, but the standard miui recovery is still reasonably adequate IMHO ..

Good luck ..

Hey all,
first I have to apologize for not giving an update on how your advices worked for me. In fact I didn't do the update process until today because of... errr.... lack of time, a lot of skiing, whatever... ;-)
But today I did it and it worked quite well. I first tried the approach of isakac by just downloading the needed HM2XTDPRO-version of MIUI8.2.1 stable version.
I then started the update process on the telephone by going to Updater -> install from SD card -> choose above mentioned zip-file HM2XTDPRO. This led to a reboot to recovery but unfortunately after 25% of installation process it got aborted every time... :-(
That's why I then chose the above description of mirko.mosi. When installing the TWRP I had to do it via PC linked with USB-cable to the telephone. The other way by loading it to my SD card and then installing it via Updater -> install from SD card -> choose TWRP zip file did not work properly. The rest of mirko.mosi's way of installation worked perfectly and nearly all of my settings and data was transferred to the new MIUI 8.2.1 installation.
Only two things were missing: Email-settings (including emails!) and the app Here maps (including previously installed maps). But that's quite okay as I usually do my email buisness via outlook - so no important email was lost. And Here maps is re-installing now... ;-)

Thanks a lot to all of you for advising me!!!
