Unlocking a Redmi 8

I am using the Mi Unlock Tool version: 7.6.727.43
The phone has developer options enabled, is signed into the Mi Account prior to entering Fastboot

Mi Unlock successfully verifies the device but
The error I get in the Unlocking phase is:
Please add your account in MIUI's Settings > Developer options > Mi Unlock status

I have "add the account and device" in this menu and claims I added the account successfully.

Any ideas?

Try this procedure:
- Sign out of your Mi account on the device
- Restart the device
- Turn off WiFi and turn on mobile data
- In developer options, enable "OEM unlocking
- In the developer options, log in to your Mi account in the "Mi Unlock Status" section
- Put your device into "fastboot mode"
- Connect the device to the PC using a USB cable
- Unlock the device

Many thanks for your reply. I carried out the instructions above to the letter. However the problem persists.

I don't know if it makes any difference but the MIUI version is 12.5.3

Cannot bind my account to my device to unlock bootloader on Mi 9t.

Hey All, Lately Ive been wanting to refresh my Xiaomi Mi9t and put a custom ROM on there. For this I need to unlock the bootloader. However when to do this, I need to bind my account to my device via 'developer options' -> 'Mi unlock status'. Everytime I try this, I get the same error...

As per contents of your message I confirm:
1) May account is active in terms of phone number, email address and account number. I can sign into Mi Cloud too.
2) My settings screen is different where I don't have a Used Data screen.
3) I changed the region to US

All are met with the same error as before.
