I HAD to buy a new redmi 4 for my father and i desperately want to flash xiaomi.eu rom over the shop rom. I picked up mi flash booted the phone int edl mode and no matter what i always get the same "cannot read from port" error...
Can u please guide me step by step? Other then reboot the phone int edl i haven t done anything...

Same error on 2 different phones? This one being brand new?

Did you try another PC, maybe your computer OS is doing something, try fresh windows install.
I had similar error when I was backuping phone baseband area QCN using QualComm QPST.
I had atom based win7 which had limited memory, after I killed all unneeded background processes and closed google chrome error went away.

I see now that I am taking a wrong step somewhere, but can't figure out what.

i have tried in two windows 10 64bits machines with several usb cables on every single usb port...always with the same error "cannot read from port xx"

There someone says: "The fix for me was to turn the phone off and back on (into EDL mode) after installing the Qualcomm drivers in the MiFlash folder. facepalm"

Also try this : "Right click on the MiFlash Tool, select Properties > Compatibility > Tick Run in compatibility For Windows 7, and Run as Administrator. [IMPORTANT]"
