Reboot to the other ROM failed - phone constantly restarting

Hi, this morning I decided to go back to my older weekly ROM (3.8.30) since 3.9.6 was draining my battery more. So I went into the Updater.app and chose 'Reboot to Recovery' ... being in Recovery mode I chose the older ROM on System One and rebooted. I got the 'Optimizing apps' message and all seemed normal but when I unlocked the system and tried to work with it again it suddenly rebooted again!!! When I tried to go into Recovery mode while restarting via Volume Down + Menu keys I just see 'Fastboot' but can't get any further ...

Now my phone is stuck in a constantly restarting loop (is that the "bootloop" I'm reading in the forums) and I don't know how to get out of it

I hope someone can help me.

Well after writing this post I was fast enough to enter the Updater app and choose 'Boot to Recovery' ... back to 3.9.6 B-)
I guess I have to live with more battery drain then ...

try this:
install CWM (ClockWorkMod - check the respective site for more information and installation process)
wipe everything
install any ROM you like and reboot

Well I was pondering about that as well but I wanted to stay with the weekly updates and not start to test a lot of ROMS that are available out there ... ;-) And don't I have to reinstall CWM every time I update the weekly ROMS?

Nobody says u have to test all roms because u have cwm... u can flash any rom with stock updater to i think.
and no you don't have to install cwm after a rom installation.

CWM can be used as an alternative to stock recovery for the installation of ROMs in case this is not possible through the stock recovery. Once you achieve what you want through CWM (instead of the stock recovery) then you don't have to use CWM any more.
In your place, I would download the zip file of the ROM I wish to install, store it in the root of my internal storage space, go to the updater app and install the zip file directly via the app (no need to boot to stock recovery), of course as long as the particular type of ROM allows to be flashed directly over the previous one, as in the case of MIUI ROMs.
Alternatively, I would install CWM and use it to wipe everything and flash my ROM.
