Official LOLLIPOP based MIUI 6 for MI2/Mi2s coming in late Jan 2015

There's a bugtracker, but I don't think that reporting something like this will help.. They will not change their position, unfortunately.
In the good old days MIUI devs listened their community.
I don't know how much they changed but if something isn't good should be pointed out. Or this beta testing will be completely useless.

...aaand Qualcomm owns part of Xiaomi... shouldn't be "easy" for them to make their own software properly support their own hardware?

So.. there are no point to wait for an offical release of this rom?
I still do remember the god ol times with Miui 4 and android 2.3 on my htc desire. God times..

Well, don't meet trouble halfway, its still a beta.
Yes, its a pity that the xiaomi limits its support to the absolutely necessary but you shouldn't forget that you cannot take it for the granted that a two year old phone is getting regular updates.
I remember for my old Galaxy 1 plus which would have sticked to 2.3 without a great community developing custom Roms and just one year after buying.
Lets see how the release version works when its finished. And of course i also hope they do their work properly after that embarrassing KK special edition.
Subject to the condition you've tried it, you've to admit that Ivans L AOSP wasn't that bad, so the knowledge should be there..

just my opinion ..

You have put it too nicely. I would say that Xiaomi hasn't brought a single update which would add a new feature since end of 2013. They managed to publish new (still beta) Miui 6, which is a half baked, more or less ****ed up system if you compare it to much better Miui 5. Xiaomi publish every week an update, it's true, but it's necessary to say that these updates are pointless and Xiaomi wasn't able after so many updates to do a usable email client or a calendar, so one must install an alternative.

When I hear a praise about Xiaomi's everyweek updates I think this is a bad joke, because support is literally nonexistent!
How can someone call it an update if there is nothing new and nothing's better.
I wouldn't mention it if Xiaomi at least publish a security fixes because for example Mi2s runs on Android 4.1.
I don't expect a change in their approach and think that they will more focus on app colors and similarly "important"stuff then usability and security.

So.. there are no point to wait for an offical release of this rom?

If you want to experience Lollipop try Ivan's ROM it's pretty good, or wait for CM12.

I can try to put on bugtracker something like "lack of drivers", but who will care about that?
The problem is that almost all the Mi2/S MIUI users (and also some beta tester......) know about only the MIUI changelog (weather in calendario, WOW!) and he number in Device Info: changed in 4.4.4 and now in 5.0, so that's good, Xiaomi officialy supports Mi2/S. They don't know it's like a Custom ROM.

Anyway a proper update now would be impossible, it shoud have been done with the Kit Kat update, damned "Special Edition"...

it is very pessimistic. They said the official 5.0, ie, no Special Edition. I think that the spring can got a worthy firmware. I'll be grateful you if you write about bad drivers. We need to try to ensure that our efforts, our petitions been helpful

any news from beta testing team.... are they providing bug fixes regularly or like special edition V6

I'll try to see what are the thoughts of some other beta testers about that, I can't do this alone.

No one updates on miui 6 lollipop?
What do you want to know?

They are doing something, the first ROM I tried was unusable (lots of FC and bugs, huge battery drain), now is more stable (but there are still bugs and battery life is poor). I got 5.2.4, "somebody" had 5.2.6 OTA don't know why. See if today they release 5.2.9 OTA, mabye for all beta tester...

I have 5.2.4 too. They skipped 2 releases (5.2.5 and 5.2.6), hope 5.2.9 will be more smooth and battery-friendly.

5.2.6 was released, but few beta testers received it, nobody knows why. Anyway I'm downloading now 5.2.9 OTA, lets see what they've done.

When miui 6 lollipop will be released?
We don't know a precise date, probably when it will stable.

Anyway I asked (twice) thoughts about that we have same kernel and drivers from MIUI V5 Jelly Bean.
First time one beta tester said "its still based on android L".
Second time nobody answered me.

EDIT: new answer: "what difference does it make?"

That's what I wrote now, don't know if there will be some reaction.

EDIT: "well power management can be handled by optimizing lollipop too"....
I quit.

Reported this in bugtracker, even if they kick me out I don't give a sh*t, I don't want to help to improve a manifacturer Custom ROM..

"Totally lack of kernel, sources and drivers update
Not a proper bug, but we have to say that the Mi2/S has received no one proper update from it's release.
Kernel, sources, drivers, all the same from the ROM MIUI V5 based on Android 4.1 (2012, gentlemen, 2012).
That ROMs that Xiaomi is releasing (MIUI 6 "Special Edition" Kit Kat and now MIUI 6 Lollipop) are like Custom ROMs. It's like I take all I need from MIUI V5 Jelly Bean and build a MIUI 6 ROM based on Kit Kat or on Lollipop, using all the hacks needed to let it work. That means no performances improvements, no better camera shots, no better heat managment etc. That's not a company support. That's a support that can be done from any external developer from all over the world.

I decided to report that to see what members, moderators, devs and so on think."

I ask to beta testers who are reading to support this "bug". Thank you.

How can mi2s, the first big success of xiaomi so far, never got any real update? And by real i mean a pure major version change, not doodling around with weekly useless updates and crossbreeding old kernel and drivers with new roms.I love this phone as well as all new Xiaomi devices but i learned my lesson, always check the future plans for os upgrades.Xiaomi you're doing great so far but watch out, there are many quality rivals behind you and the competition is tough.

You are worrying to much, its just a phone and thus wont change anything anyway because theres no way they are gonna go merge newer drivers into kernel and its really nice of them to support 2 years old phone and giving it priority over newer devices.

I know it will change anything, I'm realistic.
I don't think "it's really nice they support", at all. Came on, they are using Mi2/S like a guinea-pig to test Lollipop and MIUI, you call it support? I call support more what devs do here (and you too have been).

I agree with @Fortinho you can't call support that, there wasn't any major update, not even 4.2 damn it so we could say heyyy they did care about the phone.I think mi2s was sacrificed for the success of mi4 and mi note.

Well I dont understand what Xiaomi can do in this case,if they dont release lollipop at all people are not happy and when they release it they are not happy vecause they are "guinea pigs". I agree that they should release kernel source from new release but it wont change anything because it contains old drivers and porting new drivers will give minor performance boost and we really dont need that.

If they use old kernel, drivers and so on then where these lags and bugs came from? Because AOSP Lollipop for MI2 is so smooth and ready for daily use. Maybe they are still trying to integrate new drivers?

Driver arent big bottleneck and they never were for ex. Android apps written in Java execute around 25% slower than ones written in native simply if you want more performance call Google not Xiaomi.

Well, I'm still surprised that Xiaomi is releasing a Lollipop version at all. Granted, it's not good, and I doubt that I will elect to upgrade to the new rom.

That being said, I have always considered MIUI a fork of Android, much like Amazon's FireOS. I never expected any Android upgrade from Xiaomi since they're just concerned about the MIUI experience (check the weekly changelog).

On my MiPad, I fully expect to be stuck on Android Kitkat. That's what you buy when you buy a Xiaomi device.
