Hi,
I'm trying to flash the 5.1.16 multilang through Updater but when it reset to recovery to update, it failed with message: "Error when applying update". I'm also using the official recovery MiRecovery 2.01.
I've tested with stable version and dev version from the official ROM, with full wipe/reset.
Is there anybody that meets the same problem?

Hey guys, I am travelling in singapore. Was thinking of getting a redmi 2 as the price is good here. Just wanted to ask is there any point in installing multilanguage rom if you only need to use english? Cant i just keep the rom that ships with the phone, get play services off mi store and use OTA updates as normal?

Yes, you can just use the official stable OTA updates, since it's stable and multilang is not a matter.
For Play Store, download Google Installer from Mi App market and update play store to latest version, then you're all set.

Normal rom should be fine, however, the multi lang rom has google services already installed and most unwanted Chinese apps have been removed. It's up to you

I updated through the Updater multilanguage patch (5.1.16) and when reset to Recovery it showed "Error when applying update".
Tested with stable and dev version official ROMs.
Where is the log that I may look into?
Try to put the rom file to a root path (internal memory, not SD) and rename it update.zip

You should rename the rom to update.zip. Try to put it into phone internal storage root and external SD card root, just copy it to various places. You might also try to put one update.zip in the downloaded_rom folder.
Next go to the updater app and select update manually. Phone will reboot to recovery and update should be installed correctly. I did this on Redmi 2 and it worked straight away.
Alternatively you could try to boot in recovery and select update from zip there.

Yeah, I tried them already but no luck. That when I was on stable 6.2.8 (which was original when it came to my hands). Then I flashed new ROM to dev version 5.1.16, choose update from local file and still failed. I have updated to 5.1.23, so maybe I'll try flash multilanguage ROM again when it releases.
Are you flashing them directly from the dev version or stable version?
I remember when I flashed my Redmi Note 4G, it just went smoothly even when I'm on stable. Don't know why this didn't.
If there is a log or something I can look into for some clues. This is becoming a mess to me. The phone is for my mother, so the multilang is very important.

Now I'm on 6.2.8 (stable) again.

Are you sure it wasn't some custom rom that has been modified by the shop where you bought it? Some shops make their own roms. Do you have normal Mi recovery?
I received my Redmi 2 few days ago and just used updater app to flash multilang from internal storage root. You might consider doing a full whipe before installing from recovery but you need to be careful with that. Make sure you have 1 or multiple roms on SD card and internal storage. You might try flashing an older version.

I bought it from the Xiaomi Market. I don't think they flash wrong ROM, and when I got it, it was on stable 2.8.0 as most of recent packages.
Yes, I have just reflashed to stable version 2.8.0 (with full-wipe) and then update through Updater, but it still failed.

Maybe try several rom versions
If nothing works then try booting in recovery, perform full wipe and install update.zip However you need to be carefull with performing wipe because you might wipe total internal SD and it might not boot anymore. I would not recommend this.
Best might be to try another flashing method (USB?) or wait for a good custom recovery and make proper backup first.
Edit: Are you sure you have an original Xiaomi? Did you do authenticity check?

Damn that's weird.
I really don't know, I would try to flash CWM (there's e thread on official english forum) and flash the ROM from there after a format system, wipe data, cache and davlik cache.

I'm in China and they (the official market) have open buy each Tuesday. I got one on this week. So I believe this phone is legit.
After full-wiping from Recovery Mode, the system does not recognize the update.zip which I placed in external SD card before. So I have to boot into the system, copy to ROOT and then do flash from the Recovery Mode.
Well, this is so frustrated. Can you share your phone info (Build number, etc) ? I would be very appreciated.
Um, I'm really scared of flashing another Recovery Bootloader. Maybe I'll wait for someone can create a full ROM that I can do a full flash from PC.

I think there is a Lollipop 5.0 rom with CWM, not sure.
Some ppl are complaining the CWM in the other thread can't be flashed. They say only temporary boot works (I don't know what temporary boot is).

I have to create new topic for this problem. I think your version and my version may be not the same since I tried to flash the same ROMs (board HM2014811) but it failed, but HM2014813 will not.
However, after some time of researching around, I think (with some clues) WCDMA is having product number WT88047, while LTE is WT86047.
