the WiFi on my Mi5 is slow as molasses.
try downloading one of the Ubuntu distros at the bottom of this page: http://bo.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/ubuntu-releases/vivid/ (it's a fast mirror service)
I don't get more than 200-300 kB/s, whereas with my notebook and the same WiFi I easily max my internet connection (1800 kB/s)
the same can be said for Play Store downloads: they take as long as forever.
I remember this also affected my old Mi4 with an older MIUI version.
how can no one possibly notice this?
