Same problem there, yesterday i re-install, Mi Home app, its, works maybe ten time... But it stop again..

I found that for proper working push notifications Mi home process have to work all the time in background. The problem is that many Android UI's closing apps for battery saving. I have similar problem with push notifications from my vacuum, I have noticed that all notifications are coming to Mi home but it do not send push notification. For me it started working when I changed settings that Mi home shall not be closed for battery saving. In Miui go to Security->Apps choose Mi Home and in Battery saving change to no limit.
Yes that seems to have worked for me at the moment. Let's see if it continues to work.
In Android, go to Settings > Apps > Special Access (3 dots in top right hand corner) > Optimise Battery Usage > Change to All apps > scroll down to Mi Home app and change flag to unmarked. Should now appear in the Apps not optimised choice. Job done

I also disabled battery saving for Mi Home app and for now notifications are working. In my MIUI 9.6 the setting is in Settings > Battery & Performance > Battery saver/Choose apps > Mi Home > No restrictions.

a minute ago it worked for me without make any changes...
Its not work, some times notifications came when app is open, but usually nothing notification not came..

Notifications coming through whilst app open, but non if lock screen is on even though MiHome is set to priority. Any ideas?

I have the same the same problem since about one month. I tried everything but nothing changed. My alarm system (14 window/door sensors + 5 motion sensors + webcam) is now quite useless.
I test re-install again Mi-Home app, and Notifications works about ~4-5-times, and then stop work! Mystical, then notifications came randomly batch, or not at all.

Please check in settings if your Mi-Home app is working in background after some time not using it. It could be that your system is turning off apps because of power optimization. In this case you will not receive push notifications.
It depending on Android version I have Xiaomi MIUI 9.5 with Android 7.0 and there in Application options > Installed there is small green circle next to Mi home which is sign of background working.
I tried changing server with no success. Then I tried to log in ALL available servers, one after the other, and finally logged back in china server. And it worked. Notification are back since 72 hours.
