Hi,

5G was working fine out of the box on my Mi 11 China model miui 12.0.22 cn. This is now *not* working after updating with mi eu rom 12.0.22 using the fastboot rom for mi 11 eu rom.
Preferred network is set to 5G, apn is correct and 5G is available in my area. The phone attaches to a 4G+ network.

On manually searching for mobile networks only 4g, 3g and 2g networks are detected and shown in the list with no 5g networks appearing. Happy to provide additional info.

Thanks

Additional info:
The ROM installed is the latest eu stable rom [xiaomi.eu_multi_MI11_V12.0.22.0.RKBCNXM_v12-11-fastboot]. The MVNO I use in the UK is Virgin mobile which uses Vodafone's band 42 (3400 Mhz).

Update: I just updated to the latest Mi 11 - 12.5 stable Mi EU ROM. Still facing the same issue unfortunately, *no* 5G. ROM updated version is below

xiaomi.eu_multi_MI11_V12.5.1.0.RKBCNXM_v12-11-fastboot.zip

Same here on weekly Redmi K30 Pro (lmi). It's fine on China Latest which I've switched back to for now...

I'm inside China Mainland, using China Mobile although roaming with CMHK but I see it doesn't seem to making a difference anyway....

Guys, check if you have 5G - the icon at the top (4/5G) may not update but run a speedtest and it ought to be 5G speeds

I found a few of these in the logs:

04-12 01:01:01.027 6595 9452 D MainServiceImplHandler: : EVENT_ON_5G_SIGNAL_STRENGTH_CHANGE_IND
04-12 01:01:01.027 6595 9452 D MainServiceImpl: onSignalStrength: Responding back for transaction = null
04-12 01:01:01.028 6595 9452 D MainServiceImpl: onSignalStrength: Responding back for transaction = null

And this:

04-12 01:00:55.935 6595 9452 D MainServiceImpl: delayNotifyNrIcon, updated icon is not 5G icon, no delay report

Also my speeds are 100mbps plus when I try a speedtest, if I switch to "Prefer LTE" it'll be about 4x slower on a speedtest even though the icon doesn't change at all between them.

Also this, the whole mobile stack seems to have an issue reconciling 5G but it does work but definitely something that needs to fixed at some point....

Just checked this using network cell info lite app and it attaches to lte band 7 in both modes. Perhaps requires a test at another tower if the behaviour changes.

The issue ktechmidas had was already solved in the latest builds.

Ok. I'm on 12.5.3 and still can't attach to a 5G connection. I've tried across different base stations and the result is the same - band 7 LTE.

Thanks

This isn't a show stopper, only trying to help with the bug reporting for feedback. :) Hope this is resolved at some point in the future.

p.s. I initially had official China and it worked.

Thanks for all the great work!

Well with ktechmidas's cooperation we managed to solve his 5G network issue.
We won't be able to solve anything without an actual user's timely cooperation with testing a debugging, which also means fetching radio logs from China ROM.

With 12.5.4 the phone display icon changes to 5g as described in the above fix. However, the phone does not actually attach at any point to a 5g band.

I confirmed this by using another 5g phone on the same network and same location. For 5g it attaches to B1 and I get 150+ Mbps, whereas with the mi 11 it hovers around 30-40 Mbps consistently.

@ktechmidas could you please confirm that the improved speeds you were getting are actually 5g and not improved lte?

@devs please let me know if you need any of my logs.

Thanks

It's definitely 5G now as it's connecting to NR and can be confirmed by doing adb logcat -b radio:

LATEST:
[0][0177]> REQUEST_SET_PREFERRED_NETWORK_TYPE networkType = 26 [SUB0]
(before it was simply requesting LTE)

However I'm roaming, so I'm never expecting full 5G speeds but it is faster than the regular 4G I was getting before.

Without a comparative log from the same version of China ROM, your logs from Xiaomi.eu ROM would be pretty useless.

Fair point. Could you please specify if there is anything else you'd like me to tail/cat besides the below command when I get a chance?

adb logcat -b radio

This could also be useful from both ROMs:
Code:
adb logcat -s CallFeaturesSetting,FiveGManager,FiveGUtils,FiveGDataOptimize,FiveGCloudController,SingleFiveGController,PreferredNetworkTypeListPreference,QtiRadioIndication,WifiScoringParams,"NetworkController.MobileSignalController(1)" > venus_5g.txt

Update: this was likely a carrier issue. I can confirm that 5G is working on 12.5.4 and above.

Thanks
