Flashing Twrp

Hello, I am new to this ROM and have few questions.

1)Do I need to flash TWRP to be able to flash the weekly MIUI9 rom or can i just do:

fastboot boot twrp.img

flash the rom and all traces of TWRP will be gone?
I do not want any trace of TWRP on my device!
2) Perhaps its possible to flash this rom without a custom recovery?
3)Will i be able to receive weekly OTA updates with MIUI9 with unrooted device, locked bootloader and default recovery?

My device is redmi note 4x (mido)

The ROMs from xiaomi.eu need TWRP as a recovery to be flashed. So, no, you can't flash any recent xiaomi.eu ROM if you revert to stock recovery.

If you want a vanilla MIUI 9 system with stock recovery and OTA updates you have to switch to Global, if you're on a xiaomi.eu ROM in this moment. Sadly, I've never done such thing so you'll have to wait for someone else to give you tips with that.

The fastboot command you typed simply launches TWRP, by the way. It won't disappear for sure after you flash the ROM.

Are you sure thats true? I have read on XiaoMiTool page which says it can flash the Xiaomi EU ROM.

I am currently on Global Stable so I cant test any of this, waiting for my bootloader unlock. I've read that this EU rom supports OTA with MIUI9 (no need to reflash every new update)??

Hm, I honestly don't know xiaomitool, but it's written on the installation page of every xiaomi.eu ROM that you absolutely NEED twrp recovery to flash this ROM. So, if this tool can install it, I would just assume it automatically flashes twrp.

Oh, it wasn't clear you were on Global already! I knew Global had the OTA, my father has got a Mi5 with the Global dev ROM and he receives OTAs without any trouble.
I don't really know about xiaomi.eu for your phone, but OTA for my device (Mi Note) was dropped more than a year ago, so I used to believe there was no OTA for xiaomi.eu ROMs, or maybe just for the stable branch. Again, I think we'll have to wait for the cavalry here, I'm not that experienced so I will avoid giving you peremptory advice. I'm just okay with manually downloading the ROM so I didn't ever bother.

For the fastboot command, yes, if you don't permanently flash the custom recovery with "fastboot flash recovery", you should be able to launch it and use it without flashing it, but I would advise against it, because even if the first installation was successful (and I don't know about that) you would have to repeat the temporary flashing for every update, so adieu OTA (if there is one). Again, people will always tell you to just flash TWRP and use it for every successive update, so I'm not really sure you can flash eu ROM by just temporarily launching TWRP.

Well, an OTA update is basicly doing the same thing. Flashing an updated ROM is very easy, the Updater app does it for you, so the only difference between OTA and manual is the fact you have to put some clicks here on the site to download the ROM and put it on your phone. I suppose so, but redownloading the whole ROM everytime an update is pushed is a bit inconvienent, especially with a slow connection that I have. Anyway thanks for your help maybe someone else here can confirm if the newest weekly ROM has OTA

you need to flash twrp then your EU room. and then lazydflasher and wipe.
When you want to flash OTA"s you need to download the whole rom and repeat it.

If you want to root, flash also supersu or magicmask again

You definitely don't need lazyflasher, just TWRP. There you can backup and do aor wipes.
Since MIUI 9 OTA is available with the weekly EU-ROMs, and everytime it will be a full ROM to download.

I thought I would add my recent experience with the MiMax 2.
It came with the stable Global rom. The unlock permission came within 24 hours. To unlock I had to switch to the Global dev rom - and wait 72 hours.
Flashing TWRP via fastboot was trouble free. I was unable to flash the rom via fastboot - error message. I then copied the rom to the device and flashed with TWRP - which is what the instructions clearly told me to do. Moral is I suppose read the first page of the thread and then read it again a couple of times.
