I've currently noticed vast battery drain while my phone has no reception for periods of time (mainly being at work.)

I'm thinking the modem/radio must be continuing to scan for a network which is causing the drain, and I'm wondering whether this is MIUI related or hardware related?

And, if there is a way to work around it?

Easy way is to switch airplane mode, maybe apps are avalible that do it automaticallt on low reception as its true that radio goes higher power on low reception.

This is true, and not to be fussy but it's a lot of manual altering.
I usually always switch to power saving mode, 2G/Data while I'm at work, then switch them back later.

Maybe you cound use a time scheduled auto airplane mode.
I have seen this feature somwhere , not sure where.

This is very normal and happened to all phones while there is no reception.

I'm not too certain about that, but I know where you're coming from if you're relating to low signals.

My previous phone, an iPhone, treated no signal as if it were on aeroplane mode thus resulting in less battery drain. Unless it has a feature where scanning intervals are different throughout different strengths I could be baffled.
