Any Modding Suggestions?

Hello everyone, today I received my RedMi Note 3 Pro(the International one), and I'm quite lost in this new device. Until today I used a Nexus 5, easy to mod and add whatever I wanted but I don't want to lose this hobby, and I tried to flash the EU Rom : Talking about this in a Facebook forum, i found out that my version is the ''Kate'' and not the ''Kenzo'', then I was going to flash the wrong one, hopefully it didn't worked, but now, I learned that to unlock the device I must: ask to xiaomi to unlock the bootloader(already sent them the request,just waiting for them), download MiFlash, the right EU Rom(atm I can't find it), the right TWRP to flash the ROM, and nothing else.
Now, is something missing? I am wrong somewhere? If yes, explain me why.
