On official forums there's been announcement about future Android N updates:

nd the good news is there are several Xiaomi phones that will get the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update. These include:

Redmi Note 3
Redmi 2 Prime
Redmi 3/3S/3A
Mi4S
Mi4c
Mi 5
Mi Max
Mi Note/Pro
Mi4i
Mi Pad 2

Now, I have Redmi 2 Enhanced which has 2GB RAM as does the Prime. Does this mean I'll be able to use Prime ROM on my phone, too? Is there any significant difference between Enhanced and Prime models, beside the name?

No, but if they make official rom it's ok, otherwise you will need ported rom, made by community. I think that they have to optimize actual roms, android 7 is far far away for now

So there is no Marshmallow yet for most phones, maybe directly to Nougat?
