Xiaomi just did one of those Xiaomi things and placed this phone as EOL. It came out at the same time as the 12 series and it got mistreated so badly... Only android 13 and HyperOS 1. And if you look at Redmi note 12 that came out 4 months later and is a lot weaker than the 12x, already has HyperOS 2 and android 15... WTF Xiaomi...
Each year that passes, the more I'm starting to drift away from Xiaomi...

Its most likely because of the Snapdragon 870 in it.
the Snapdragon Gen series gets more updates

Xiaomi 12 got Android 15, HyperOS 2.0 some months ago.
Xiaomi 12S/12S Ultra/12S Pro chipset Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1(SM8475 released Q2 2022) released 7/7/22
Xiaomi 12/12Pro chipset Snapdragon 8 Gen 1(SM8450 released Q4 2021) released 12/31/21
Xiaomi 12 Lite chipset Snapdragon 778G(SM7325 released Q2 2021) released 7/11/22
Xiaomi 12X chipset Snapdragon 870(SM8250-AC released Q1 2021) released 12/31/21
Redmi Note 12 chipset Snapdragon 4 Gen 1(SM4375 released Q3 2022) released 1/11/23
Redmi Note 12 4G chipset Snapdragon 685(SM6225 released Q4 2021) released 3/30/23

Just looking at chipset 12X is the oldest chipset of the bunch. Expect the 12 Lite to be the next on the chopping block, then the 12/12Pro, then the 12S line(and Redmi Note 12 4G), and likely last would be the Redmi Note 12.

I've got a 12S Ultra and have been kind of following along to get a good idea when mine is going to be EOL.

But the Xiaomi Pad 6 with SD870 gets HyperOS 2.0.
It also was also released April 18 2023. 16 months after the 12X. The Pad 6 support ends next year.

I would be more confused over the Mi 11 Ultra getting HOS2.

If long updates are important to you, then it's probably better to buy a Xiaomi without a letter after the number.
But I will continue to use it. There's not much new anyway.
