Update From 6.12.22 To 7.8.24

Is it possible to update from MIUI 6.12.22 (MIUI 8) to latest 7.8.24 release (MIUI 9 beta) ? (from TWRP)
If yes, do i have to unlock when 7.8.24 is installed ?

Hello, I was on 12.22 installed the correct twrp, updated to the first android n xiaomi.eu Rom (I don't know the number by heart). Bootet to fastboot and unlocked the bootloader. Then I flashed 8.24.

But I have to say that I have massive battery Drain. At the moment I would prefer not to have this Stephan done.
