When I use the pre-installed QR code scanner (system app) to scan a text with UTF-8 encoded German characters I get Chinese characters instead of the German non-ASCII characters. A QR code with ISO-8859-1 encoding produces black diamonds with an inverse question mark.

See the sample codes on

qr-code-zeichensatz-iso-8859-utf-8-unicode .html

Instead of
„Hallöchen, öäüß Teste Test Test 123 Foobar“ I get
"Hall鯿hen, 鲣 Teste Test Test 123 Foobar" or
"Hallchen, Teste Test Test 123 Foobar"

When I try the same with "QR Code Reader" from "TWMobile" both UTF-8 and ISO-8859-1 encoded characters are shown correct.

(I'm sorry for garbling the URL, but I'm not allowed to post links here.)
