I received my Mi 8 Lite with global rom pre-installed, and proceeded to unlock and overwrite with the EU rom, clean install (format everything etc) around beginning of May.
One week later I updated to the latest version OTA via the updater, which took me to TWRP and dirty install was all good.
However, when I tried to do this again just now, I encountered a problem. It seems that TWRP thinks I have to provide a password to gain access to the data partition and without it, I can't access the downloaded ROM. Forums say that TWRP version I have is unable to decrypt andoid 9 and it looks like an update is required (whenever that might be.. 8 Lite still isn't officially suported). For now, the only solution seems to be to back up the data partition to PC, and reset everything which I'm not so keen to do. I'm also not sure if this is a necessary approach every time I upgrade to the weekly ROM release.
My question is, why didn't it restrict me with the same issue the first time I updated the rom? They say data encryption is default in Android now, but in the menu I can see that I haven't enabled encryption nor do I have a password set for it. I simply don't get how I got away with it the first time.
