Hi everyone,

Just a note to say the Meizu MX and Huawei P1 are now being tested for MIUI V4.0 :)

Thanks,

Guys please keep this forum on topic or we will just simply lock them off to avoid the same repetitive nonsense :(

With the One X being the 8th device, this will be 10 total ICS devices.

Holy cow.

Nice to hear that more and more devices are added. :) Now I'm just patiently waiting for the One S to join the group of blessed devices. Fingers crossed. ;D

Hi Mark,
Any chance to see Galaxy Wonder (W) GT-I8150 with MIUI4 or GB ?

As we announced these devices, we will announce ROMs ANYTIME they get ICS. Best bet is to follow @miuiandroid on twitter. The account tweets all ports and what not.

This may be a dumb question, but when MIUI is ported to a device does it just modify the files of the existing ICS rom? Or is it built from ground up? For example, there has only been a beta ICS rom released for the Meizu MX with no source, so would stability and bugs depend on that beta ROM alone?

There are only 3 source built ROMs. The Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus and Xiaomi Mi One. Others are built from an ICS source/base.

Source built ROMs take forever and are reserved for flagship Google devices and phones Xiaomi makes.

Thanks! So would it be like adding ON TOP of the base ICS rom, or more like taking parts of the base ICS rom to create the MIUI port?

I guess my underlying question is if its possible that inherent bugs/issues found in the original ICS rom could be ironed out in the MIUI version, or if its the case that the MIUI port can only be as stable as the base ROM its based on?

Its like everything is stripped from the ICS base except the ICS portion and the kernel. This isn't exactly easy which is why some ports have their original Phone.apk and Camera.apk, since there integrated so well into the system.

Patchrom (The overlay project), then lays decompiled java code (which is smali) into the files of the decompiled ICS base. This merge becomes MIUI (a very buggy MIUI), which is why every week Patchrom devices (Honor, SGS2, Arc S, One X, Sensation) have bugs that the source built ROMs don't.

Patchrom is coming along though. Its not the same project they released 6 months ago, its proving to be easier and more stable. If a bug exists in the core ICS base (EX: Video not working), that won't work in the MIUI build, unless they aimed to fix it (which is outside of the MIUI overlay)

There is no DHD ICS port with video camera recording working, which is why all MIUI v4 DHD ports have no video camera working. Your only as strong as your base. So if a manufacturer releases ICS to a device, it makes it easier to give MIUI to it. (Unless its a highly modified version of ICS, like HTC Sense or Samsung Touchwiz). Pure ICS = Better. Which is why Google phones get MIUI so easily.
