is there some new battery tech on the horizon?

For example, "Silicon carbon (si/c) batteries" which are already being used in mobile phones

There is no financial incentive for device manufacturers to invest in better battery tech. Phones that are usable forever is just bad for their business.
They want the battery to be difficult to replace and they love the 2-3 years lifespan, it forces you to buy a new device. It's a passive kind of planned obsolescence.
If manufacturers really cared about their customers rather than revenue, a new battery tech would have been perfected and used long ago.
