Is someone having issues with the GPS in Mi 8?
Mine is pretty imprecise, the fix is alternating around 4-6 meters and keeps changing my lane when I'm driving, so my route is recalculated a lot... I'm using google maps

Is there any way to fix this? Tried a magisk module with a moded gps.conf file, but stayed the same thing.

ROM: beta 8.12.27, but found the issue at the 8.12.20 version too

Try to use Waze instead. Google maps jumps a lot a on Waze u had good results so far.

Same thing I tell everyone - check and /or reset your agps settings.

Search for aGPS settings in miui settings search bar.
Then press more \ default or reset so Google supl server is used.
Also set network access to "all networks.

Then more / save at the bottom

Can't reproduce the gps issues people are reporting on global beta 8.12.20

I think I've already tried to reset agps settings, I will try again and report back after test this.

Thanks

I stopped using my Mi 8 because of this never-ending GPS issue. I'm not sure what the developers at Xiaomi doing with Mi 8 development. They advertise this phone with a Dual-GPS capability, yet their GPS performance in real life is messed up big time.

This GPS inaccuracy issue happens both with EU and stock Global ROM. It's a fault from Xiaomi side since they never take devices development seriously.

Good on Global Rom now

My experience so far has been a mix of good and bad ones. I believe the worst one was when I couldn't see no satellite (I'm not talking about locking). It was really frustrating, but after a reboot (no cache wipe) my GPS found more than 20 satellite's (with 20 locks and 4 meters of accuracy).
I believe that, since I'm don't live in Europe (Brazil -> South America), GPS isn't optimized anyway (guess MIUI.EU gps.conf file is optimized for Europe), but, apart from this one time, my GPS experience hasn't been so bad.

I don't want to go back to Global ROM anymore since it contains forced advertisement. I hope Xiaomi EU team can solve this Mi 8 GPS issue.

Currently, I'm using my Huawei P20 with EMUI 9 as my daily driver and never had any weird issue while using Google Maps navigation.

Someone found the actual fix to the google maps GPS issue on MI 8 / Mi Mix 3.
Not the workaround(uninstalling gmaps update / running an older apk) - an actual fix.

If anyones interested...

for those who have problems with xiaomi 8 GPS is because Google map not by default use phone navigation system, but its own system under Google framework. To make it work, you just need to re-connect:

1, setting, location access: set it off
2, open google map, it will ask you to turn on device location, which use Google's location.

Boom!

You better use another app, like HERE, my preferred free app. And disable "Google precision services" or something in GPS settings. My Mi 8 show me often 1 meter accuracy, most of the time - 2 meters, including cloudy sky.

Hello, I have had 2 days in a row that my MI8 was completely lost on several apps using GPS. Today I rebooted the phone and everything was fine again. And I do not mean lost in a couple metres but lost like in different cities. Used Google maps and FlitsMeister (speed tracking/navigation) so for me another disappointment in my 3 weeks old new phone. There was one tiny update like a pop up 2 days ago (bought 2 phones and both got it) that could be the problem? It was done in a couple seconds and no update history just "fixed some errors" ???

I think the error comes from the apps using "google location services". View days ago a car assistance app located me 20km. away. Try to disable all the time google service in "Privacy - Location(here choose Device only, and under Scanning I have all in OFF) - Google Location Accuracy - Improve Location Accuracy(set it OFF)". Also press the recent app button while the app You want use is open, long press the app windows and then the hexagon icon. It opens the app settings page. Put the battery saver on No restrictions. And remember to check it all after every update.

Thanks, I'll try this now.
Settings - Google - Locations.
Then you have 3 choices:
High accuracy, battery saving and device only.
The last one is now used.
Scanning: all off.
Seems to be a little weird with access to these settings. You can also find this in "more settings" below Google. Then privacy then location and your in the exact setup I started out with.
