Brush Up On Upgrading The System

Hi, I want to upgrade from MIUI 7.4 - 6.5.5 Beta to the latest MIUI that I can find here but a long time has passed since the last time I fiddled with the phone.
I'd appreciate a reminder one the important steps cause now I'm confused about the boot locker thing, the SU stuff and so on. Some more explicate words (or a link to other discussion) other than the instructions on the download post would be very helpful.

1. Install offiial developer version CN
2. unlock BL from there
3. install twrp for 7, it work fine
4. reboot to twrp
5. wipe data, cache, dalwik
6. install EU rom

I did it and I have no problem.

follow above steps and you will be fine

Is this ok even from Android 5? Cause the ROM download page says differently, even though it refers to Android 6 to 7.

How to update to Android 7.0 from Android 6.0:
- Install LATEST Android 6.0 release for MI5 6.11.10
- Install TWRP 3.0.2.3 or ZCX
- Reboot to new TWRP
- Install Android 7.0 release
- Reboot - Never wipe /system partition manually!
- Done
- In case of any issues, make factory reset via system settings
- For ROOT on Android 7.0 install SuperSU 2.79
