Can i somehow manually just replace whatever needs to be replaced so that SIM works?

Im located in Denmark currently for the next 20 days. Friend got me RO sim card to have free Roaming. On his phone, sim card works perfectly but when we switch, i cannot find network. I dont know to do anything above. Casual cellphone user so dunno how to update modem etc. Do i need PC for that...

Before HyperOS screen, i have "MI" logo with "powered by Android" and that's it. Nothing else. I dont have anything locked or unlocked. Is there any other way to check if its unlocked? Also, can anyone point me to right person / website where can i unlock this? Thank you in advance
