Trouble seems to be with the unlocked bootloader. Play protect does not appear to be tripped as the device shows as being play protect certified and it happens on non-rooted installs. Switching to global stable and locking the bootloader fixes the issue and the app is installable from the play...

All working fine on Mi 8. Bonus feature, now we get notifications on the status bar to the left of the notch. One if the clock is visible there or more if it's not.
