Just install TWRP via fastboot. There're many tutorials how to do that! Then install 6.6.23 and that's it.

I advise you to install first MIUI 8 via TWRP doing full wipe of all data. It's not recommended to install MIUI 8 from MIUI 7 without full wipe. Might be big issues if you install MIUI 8 without wiping data. Tell me if you need something else! :)

Damn! I don't know then. For me it worked last time. Updating with TWRP is better. You don't have to wipe nothing expect dalvik.

Many devices gets OTA updates once month, But not Mi4 (cancro)... So you have to install manually. As @ingbrzy said: OTA for cancro / virgo / redmi 2 is too risky after Android base change.. so we decided to save users from bricked devices caused by OTA update... they have to update manually to...

You need just fastboot to TWRP and install your rom, it will install again TWRP, but permanently this time. There are many tutorials. Just one example tutorial: http://www.stechguide.com/root-and-install-twrp-recovery-on-xiaomi-mi-4/

It's the same like WCDMA version. Just LTE version have 2gb of ram and WCDMA version have 3gb of ram. Everything else is the same!

Good to know that you got successfully installed via twrp, but I can't help you with OTG. I have Mi4. :)

Go to Settings - WLAN - Advanced settings and check "Keep WLAN on during sleep" Let me know if is that the problem! :)
