Every time I've played (volountarily or by mistake) with /system partition on a Xiaomi Phone I have ALWAYS had trouble. Usually the only way I could have used to recover the phone (in detail a Mi3, a Redmi Note 2 and a Mi5) was ONLY MiFlash via fastboot. So I've always advised to NOT wipe...

If I understood correctly the problem you should wait for a recovery version that does not give you the issue of recognizing your phone Try it out yourself, otherwise why you bought a Xiaomi phone?

It's at least TWO months that I say the same thing @ingbrzy just said

If I make a wipe /system on my Mi5 the only way to get it booting is with a clean fastboot flash via MiFlash. Otherwise just bootloop. For flashing Nougat I'll probably wait this afternoon.

The difference is that all Xiaomi.EU roms are based off the China Dev not the Global Dev... So it's a good call, even if I actually believe that most changes are about performance and ram managment.

I don't know exactly but @ingbrzy usually optimises ram usage, battery consumption and makes the China rom more "european friendly", since Kate is actually based on Global I believe that it should have more functions (like swiping menu, that usually Globals don't have) but since I've never owned...

    Ask Xiaomi, not here.

As already stated, until Xiaomi publishes the official Nougat ROM, Xiaomi.EU won't leak any source. Maybe you forgot that MIUI 8 based on MM took 3 months of testing (for Global versions).

I can confirm. With my Provider I have VoLTE enabled, but in Mi5 does not work at the moment.

No, as mentioned in second post. There is no update from Xiaomi so no ROM for this week. Xiaomi is putting all its efforts on Nougat.

If you wanna change from Xiaomi.EU Dev to Xiaomi.EU stable you make usual wipes with TWRP then flash it.

If you think a bit more thorough you'll realize that Mi5 is not getting ANY update (Nor China Dev, Nor Global Dev) since the announcement of Miui 8 Alpha Nougat. And Mi5S is NOT getting any Nougat yet, only Mi5. I hope that we will receive some nougat stuff to flash on our Mi5, I actually...

You can update without any problem. They are not related. To be sure just wipe cache and dalvik via TWRP, make a complete factory reset ONLY if the Android version changes (for example, if the next ROM Update will be based on Nougat 7.0/7.1).

Xiaomi itself is giving hard times for unofficial developers. I remember clearly when they started locking bootloaders and signing their firmwares so that you had to have TWRP or you wouldn't be able to update. I kinda miss the old days of my old Mi3 when i never had to replace the MiRecovery...

I think they'll keep on manual download since uploading OTA is just a pain in the ass as said multiple times by @ingbrzy

Same interest... Unfortunatly I don't like much the already proposed app Weather M8 and since I'm not getting any updates by two weeks, neither Global nor Xiaomi.EU I'd like a way to properly fix the thing (if it's possible). And hope to see soon an Alpha Nougat version :D

This is not official Xiaomi, it's unofficial and it's specified clearly in the first post of this thread that flashing Xiaomi.EU ROMS won't relock you bootloader.
