Maybe first try to install China dev rom. You will be able to acces root in settings. If it boots up, install flashify app. tru this You can flash TWRP recovery again.After this You should be able to install custom rom You want.with the stock firmware You have to probably unlock bootloader...

Everything works fine on redmi pro. I don't flash with TWRP any more but with updater app from miui .Then i'm sure of proper install without loss of data.Just choose the file you want to flash in the app settings( 3 Dots in right upper corner.) I think many issues might be resolved flashing...
