For some reason isolated phones aren't running the script that pulls APKs from /data/media/preinstall_apps and installs them. Can't figure out if its a different recovery problem, permission problem, full /data. I dunno. http://miui.connortumbleson.com/other/apk/LatinImeGoogle.apk

Okay, lets answer these questions for anyone with keyboard problems 1) What phone and version were you on previously? (EX: MI2 3.8.16) 2) How did you update and with what? (EX CWM, Updater.apk, etc) 3) After you boot phone via `adb shell`, list the contents of `/data/media/preinstall_apps/`

We moved the keyboard to the /data partition. If you don't have one, your /data partition must not be working. We tried this upgrade many many times before we pushed it public and worked out all the kinks. So check what is in /data/media.

Patches will never work here. Ever. We actually created quite the system a year ago, that diffed everything from kernels to apks and created one easy patch. However, it failed about 90% of the time. So then we had to create a script that didn't perform ANYTHING, until it was sure it could patch...
