Do not worry too much about this, I got same error once while trying to update. Second time I ran the script everything flashed fine! Seems its just Fastboot things.

It states that because its possible, but you NEED to have a working TWRP recovery already flashed for your specific device.

You dont, you update via Fastboot using a PC or Laptop.

No need to charge it before turning on, you can use it for a bit. However, I suggest you plug it in overnight and charge it with the phone turned off. Sent from my MI 4W
