    Red Rice or MI2A ?

They're different phones. MI2A is a "real" phone, Hongmi is a budget phone. One is quite naturally cheaper than the other, and the other is quite naturally better.

Google Play and Gmail don't work on hongmi

Yes. It was the first thing I did when I got my phone. Went to Market, downloaded Google Installer, used that to download Google Play. Never a problem. I haven't touched my rom, it's still stock. I don't really want to replace my rom unless it becomes a problem. This thread is why.

Google Play and Gmail don't work on hongmi

You don't need to replace your ROM just to use Google! That's silly. Moreover it voids your warranty. Go into MI Market app. Then, download Google Installer. Use this to download Google Play, Google Maps, etc.

    WCDMA Hongmi is coming !

The price on xiaomi.com has been 799 yuan forever. Good luck getting your hands on one though, they intentionally limit the number sold so you can't get one and have to buy from a scalper.

    How does Hongmi's storage work?

Ah. Trying to avoid rooting if possible. I'm capable of it, but I like my phone and don't want anything to happen to it, even by accident. Does this mean if I move my old data over from external sdcard to internal sdcard, my programs will get their old settings back?

    How does Hongmi's storage work?

Oh, OK. So the external sdcard isn't used by the system at all. Is there a way to tell the system to use it? Hongmi's internal sdcard isn't that big.

    How does Hongmi's storage work?

Forgive me if I seem dense, but I've never had a phone with multiple storage locations so I'm confused. The Hongmi has three: an external sdcard, an internal storage, and another internal storage. On my old phone there was only internal and external. The internal card was used by the system and...

    Replacing the stock SMS app?

    That worked, thanks!

Market says the app needs to update - Google Play doesn't

Market keeps telling me I need to update certain apps, while Google Play is fine with them. Where's the discrepancy come from? Right now, Xtreme Alarm Clock by AVG Labs and Touchpal Input both show an update. But the title of both is in Chinese. Will I get a Chinese version if I update?

    Replacing the stock SMS app?

I got my Hongmi and promptly installed Handcent SMS to replace the stock message app. I then configured Handcent to filter out spam SMS. However, the stock message app still shows alerts whenever I get a spam. I tried uninstalling it, but can't. What can I do? (other than rooting)

    Is this one real?

Just bought a Hongmi yesterday from the shop. Pretty sure it's real, but just want to check. Thanks!

How bad is a fake MI2, anyway?

The fake MI2 isn't secondhand, though, it's new. I couldn't find anyone selling secondhand MI2s on Taobao. That's how I found these in the first place. The price was less than 600 and there were several dealers at that price. Anyone selling at this price point is fake. The question isn't...

How bad is a fake MI2, anyway?

So, the list goes: 1) Can't install any alternative ROM 2) Can't receive official updates to MIUI 3) ?

How bad is a fake MI2, anyway?

I'm just asking because I have the opportunity to get a fake MI2 from Taobao for less than 600 yuan ($95 USD). How bad are these fake phones? What's wrong with them? Do they break after a month, does the battery last 2 hours, do they give you electric shocks, etc. I know the firmware won't work...

How are you supposed to buy on Tuesday the 15th?

So, yesterday my faithful HTC Desire Z died suddenly and unexpectedly. I always wanted my next phone to be a Xiaomi. So I went to Xiaomi's site only to find that in five days they're launching a new phone "3". And this phone is the same price as their current phone "2". Grrr! I don't want to...
