No, he stated clearly to wipe /data partition. You can omit /data/media (at least for mi5) but the rest has to be wiped. So do backup of your user data like application/messages etc., because it will be deleted.

I think they will not. Even on official miui forum there is a statement that wipe data is necessary. I think they did some big changes, which are not backward compatible. So basically it is not a rom bug, just compatibility problem.

Mi5s is flagship variant only. Look other brands like Samsung or LG - they follow similar pattern in matter of updates. Release date is not the most important part It's only temporary fix, for most users it works only until reboot.

It's not strange. It's matter of phone popularity rather than its hardware as between sd820 and 821 is very small difference. It is quite oblivious that flagship series (mi6, mi5) gets updates faster and it's variants and other models have to wait a bit longer.

It is but keep in mind that xiaomi.eu is based on china not global version. So as long as oreo for mi note 2 is only in global you will not see it here.

It is not up to xiaomi.eu team. They work on official MIUI base so if only Nougat for Mi 5s Plus is available they will not change it. Besides, lots of bug reports for Mi5 are here and on other forums, so it would be nice if they first focus on debug rom for this phone instead of releasing...

The reply is so simple - to not lose all this improvements which come with xiaomi.eu. I think you underestimate the hard work this devs do for us :). It's not just simple translation. I would be grate to have xiaomi.eu with all this news, which global has.

I'm using only Magisk. The statement about Xposed is based on positive user reports for xposed and MIUI, which I've seen. However I didn't test it myself.

Magisk works fine with Hide. Xposed also should, however in this case you will be unable to pass SafetyNet if you're rom base is 7.+.

Just to let know - after wipe data/cache/dalvik and restoring from MIUI offline backup, Video app works again fine. Maybe it was caused by dirty flash from stable to weekly. But anyway it is good to do extra backup as this implemented with MIUI can't restore some apps. It seems to be nice for...

First install was with stable not weekly if it makes any difference. When I was moving to weekly it didn't wipe anything without my permission.

I think it was wiped during installation script, not rebooting recovery.
